Real estate caravans have not changed much since I got my real estate license in 1985. Real estate agents regularly visit new office listings and other properties placed on the market. They share snacks, and they chatter about home values, housekeeping, location, and financing. Sometimes the houses are large and expensive, sometimes they are humble.
This week the caravan was very different. Most of the houses were empty.
This week I traveled on a real estate caravan in New Orleans with the National Assn. of Real Estate Editors. We visited the 9th Ward, St. Bernard's Parrish, Jackson Barracks, and Musician's Village. I will post photographs and narrative over the next few days. Here's a sample of local neighborhood flavor in some of the neighborhoods that were flooded.
Wow…That is something. Are these houses all for sale? Are people not moving back? Can anyone talk about what is going on? Once this wasn’t an immediate tragedy it seemed to drop off the medias radar, or perhaps I have just been missing the stories.
