The Fat Lady Attends Real Estate Rally
With Bill Clinton and George H. Bush

Bushclinton6_1 It's not every day that I get to see and hear a couple of Presidents. I'm in New Orleans this week for the largest convention in the city since Katrina wracked havoc here 15 months ago. I'm posting photos and narrative about the trip on my real estate blogs: The REALTYgram Blogger and Real Estate Blog Squad. I have collected hundreds of photos this week. Stay tuned.

All You Need Is Love
Tennis, Anyone?

"In the game of tennis, the scoring system is Love, 15, 30, 40, game. The game begins with Love. In the etymology of the word, Love is no score, no stakes, nothing, to take the individual back to Love to nothing, to wholeness".--Hialeakala Hew Len, Ph.D.

Happy 55th Wedding Anniversary
To My Mom and Dad

My parents exchanged their marriage vows in 1950. I missed the party since I was barely a twinkle in Daddy's blue Irish eyes. They have four children, nine grandsons, and a granddaughter. These days he's up to his usual journalistic mischief and TheCELESTIALgram Blogger reports that Mom's too busy for a party today. She and her friend Karol are co-chairs of St. Peter's Welcome Wagon, greeting new residents to the Kingdom sent by Katrina. Happy Anniversary, you two!

Fat Lady Joins MoveOn Peace Vigil
In Bethlehem Supporting Cindy Sheehan

A tiny park in Southside Bethlehem, PA, was the site of a Peace Vigil last night that supported the efforts of Cindy Sheehan, a mother whose son lost his life in Iraq. Cindy is in Crawford, Texas, and she wants to speak with President Bush about the war. So far he has refused. It doesn't seem to work for his political agenda. There is a slide show here with more images of the event in Bethlehem. The Bethlehem event was organized by Diane Petro.

Today is National Cell-A-Thon Day;
Support Stem Cell Research

John Mudd, REALTOR®/Blogger has appealed to fellow real estate bloggers to gather support for National Cell-A-Thon Day:

"As a lifelong, insulin-dependent diabetic, I am asking you to call President Bush tomorrow, Tuesday, August 9th, at 202-456-1414, to ask him to sign H.R. 810 into law. The bill will cause embryonic stem cells to be used in various cure research, from cancer to diabetes to Parkinson's to Alzheimer's. Vetoing the bill will cause the same embryonic stem cells to be thrown in the garbage. We can save lives, or we can throw them away. Thank you in advance for any help or support you lend in the effort to get H.R. 810 signed into law."

Bill Clinton Leads Anti-Obesity Crusade
To Create A Healthier Generation

President Bill Clinton is shown at left with children in Harlem during a recent event launching a campaign to reduce childhood obesity levels. The former President's Clinton Foundation is partnering with the American Heart Assn. in an effort to curb and reduce obesity. President Clinton says that he wants to make sure all children are healthy and reverse the growing rate of obesity in the United States. Today, more than twice as many children – and almost three times as many teens – are overweight as in 1980, according to a trimmer, more fit Bill Clinton. The foundation site has an excellent video (48 minutes) that is excellent, educational. viewing. The clip features Bill Clinton, Republican Governer Huckabee of Arkansas (who recently lost 110 pounds), educators, and leaders of the AHA.

The foundation will work with educators to expand students' horizons about making good lifestyle decisions, eating good nutrition, and exercising. It will encourage schools to remove vending machines from elementary schools or stock them with healthy snacks instead of the unhealthy fare many machines now offer. The group will also launch initiatives to drive food companies and the fast food industry to offer healthier choices. They point out that food industry growth is in the healthy food market.

Plus Size Blogger's Boobs
Invite Terror Threat Mishap

Fat people have problems that others wouldn't imagine. A recent trip to New Orleans found me the subject of a round of  "pat-down" searches that made me miss a plane connection. A problematic under wire on my 44D bra (photo at left) tripped the sensor at the security gate, and a subsequent round of patty cakes with the security sentries missed hardly an inch of this rotund torso. I'm presently booking a flight to San Francisco for the annual The National Assn. of REALTORS®  convention. This time I'm opting for a row-of-small-clasps-at-the-front support model (photo at right), hoping that a reduction in metal alloy will grant quicker access to air transport. My other option is to forego the bra altogether. That may be the ticket. Advice from other plus-size women with similar dilemmas is welcome. The Transportation Security Administration has lots of good tips about travel, but avoids the metal uplift issue altogether.
