Junk Fax Bill Fixes FCC Dictum
That Requires Written Permission For Faxes
The Junk Fax Prevention Act will limit unsolicited faxes and create a vehicle that will let consumers opt out of receiving faxes, even from those with whom they have an established business relationship. It will not require that business require written permission from the receiver before issuing any faxes, per the Do-Not-Fax rules that are now held in abeyance until June, 2005. Under the Do-Not-Fax rules, real estate agents would have to receive written permission from buyers or sellers before faxing listings, contracts, or any documents. The National Assn. of REALTORS® estimates that REALTORS® would be forced to create and store over 66 million permission forms to sustain some six million home sales transactions that occurred last year.
